NEWS RELEASE: Universal Pictures (UK) to Release the Era Defining 'The Class 92' (Documentary)
UNIVERSAL
PICTURES (UK) TO RELEASE NEW FILM PRODUCTION 1st DECEMBER 2013
THE
ERA DEFINING
THE CLASS OF 92
DOCUMENTARY
The
Class
of 92, a cinematic documentary detailing the rise to prominence and
global sporting superstardom of six supremely talented young Manchester United
footballers (David Beckham, Nicky Butt,
Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Phil and Gary
Neville) will debut in selected cinemas across the UK from Sunday 1st
December and will be available on DVD from Monday 2nd December. The
film covers the period 1992-1999, culminating in Manchester United’s European
Cup triumph, and will dramatically interweave and mirror the highs and lows of
its football odyssey with the immense social and cultural changes taking place
in Britain at the time.
At the heart of this ambitious film is the
tale of how six 14 year-old working class lads from diverse backgrounds came
together to play for the same club, became the spine of the most lauded team in
world football, and who throughout their period of unparalleled success
remained best mates. The production has the unique distinction of having
secured unprecedented access to all six players and promises to gain new and
revealing insights about each individual and this special period in British
football and cultural history. In addition, the production has secured the
collaboration of numerous high profile interviewees including Zinedine Zidane, Tony Blair, Mani
from the Stone Roses, Eric Cantona and Danny Boyle.
According
to Ryan Giggs, “When we were
approached to do this film, it gave me the chance to think back over all the
events in not only my career but all of the lads involved. Hopefully you’ll see
how personal it is to us all - we’re still great mates and who would turn down
the chance to make a movie with your best mates?” Phil Neville added, "Making this film was a great experience,
it's got us all together, as we don't often get a chance to these days, to
revisit old haunts and reflect over the past. I am really looking forward to
seeing the film complete". And finally David Beckham said "My time with these players at Manchester
United were the most special in my career. We came from different backgrounds,
grew up like a family playing together through the ranks, all wanting to be
successful. In the end, what we achieved was beyond our wildest dreams. I
loved making this film and reuniting back with the lads and talking openly
about our time together."
The Class of 92 is directed by
Ben and Gabe Turner, produced by Leo Pearlman, all of Fulwell 73 Productions and executive
produced by Patrick Holland of Boundless
(part of FremantleMedia UK). The two directors have previously worked on
the critically acclaimed In the Hands of the Gods and Freddie
Flintoff: Hidden Side of Sport.
According to Ben Turner, “This is our chance to create an important film that
will do justice to an amazing footballing fairytale during an era of great
social change that we are still really nostalgic about. We are confident that
we will get more in-depth insight from them than ever before and that this will
be a very special film.”
According to Ian Foster, Universal Pictures Regional Managing
Director, “This story transcends football and will have a truly nationwide appeal.
For 90
minutes we want viewers to feel they've been invited into the coolest and most
exclusive club in the world and that they have complete no holds bared access.
This film will give its viewers a unique personal experience with the players,
the British psyche and of course Manchester United.”

A fabulous review as you would anticipate from this site; good to see you back 'fighting' your corner on the net, ma old Cocker.
ReplyDeleteI would like to convey I have Ian Marshall's book: The Class of 92, and a fabulous read it was, on a brilliant generation, likely not to be repeated. Chemistery and Sir Alex Ferguson, going back to Sir Matt's, United roots. Investing in youth and providing the youngsters at the football club an opportunity to shine.
I personally hope as do most Manchester United fans, Davie Moyes will bring back Nick Powell as a stronger player, with experience from Wigan to prove Sir Alex bought at top class midfielder. In tandem Wilfried Zaha, I realize he needs time to develop, with the huge step up in class from Crystal Palace to Manchester United, but he was exceptional on the ' AON ' summer tour. He needs just to be embraced, and love provided to the youngster at United.
Not to different to the Class of 92 as your video article conveys. Sir Matt as you know my old Red, said ' if they are good enough, they are old enough.'
The wisest people are often the quietest one's, that seldom convey their thoughts, ponder and think. This is not the .... You know the rest ..... Of Sir Matt Busby after match interview on winning the European Cup.
Great article. United will never die....never.
During rehearsals, he had simply re-told this story. I felt it would impactnfl live stream the audience because it was a different side to this big, tough football player we had all come to admire.
