Rooney: How Wrong Was I?

Rooney: “I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad. I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract.”

“For me its all about winning trophies – as the club has always done under Sir Alex. Because of that I think the questions I was asking were justified.

April 2011 (United need only 7 points out of 12 to clinch title number 19, and are on the verge of playing in their 3rd Champions League final in 4 years)

Rooney: “When I look back at it now, how wrong was I?”

“Obviously, I understand I made a mistake. I admitted that and I apologised for that. I’ve wanted to try to prove myself all over again to the United fans. I feel I’m doing that now. Hopefully, now I’m helping this team to be successful. It would be a great end to the season to be in a Champions League Final and to win the title. I’m very grateful to the fans for supporting me and I’m delighted with my form again. I hope that I’m proving myself through my displays. I’m 100 per cent committed to this club.”
