VIEW: United vs Crawley Town. 1-0
Good.
Erm...we're through? Yeh, I know. I don't think many people will disagree with that being the number one positive we can draw from such a poor, lazy performance against a team many were hoping for a double figure scoreline against.
Team Selection. Really scraping the barrel here. But suppose it was nice - if only completely predictable - to see the likes of Bebe and Hernandez start for us. Not that they did anything with their time to shine, mind.
Gibson. That's what we want to see from Gibo. An assured display, bossing the midfield and providing a good few well weighted killer passes. It's interesting because the amount of chances he had to pull the trigger, egged on by the crowd to shoot from his 35-yard comfort zone, was understandable given the space and time Crawley gave him; yet the amount of chances he took, instead opting to take a touch too many or simply passing to a team mate instead, was minimal. This is clearly a player lacking confidence through a blend of losing form and his place in the side. However as one goes without the other, he only has himself to blame, regardless of what Northern Ireland's manager says.
Smalling. Arguably our best player...even though he played little over half an hour! Is it me or is Smalling looking more and more assured, comfortable and mature with every minute he plays - gaining as many new admirers in the process as well?
Bad.
a) We managed to score one goal against a team 93 places below us.
b) Our solitary goal was scored by one of a centre-back, not one of our three strikers.
c) In fact, our attackers only managed four efforts on target.
d) As for possession? That's right, the Blue Square Bet Premier side had more of the ball at OT - 54% to our 46%.
e) We have Arsenal in the next round.
