'Following the Trawler...' Interview Part II: Rosso Bianchi
Interview number 2 is with hilarious United blog Rosso Bianchi...
1. So, assuming you thought United would win
the title comfortably before the Wolves defeat, have your feelings changed at
all following that weekend?
Not at all. No one really expected
us to finish the entire season unbeaten, and a loss - a loss away from
especially - was always on the cards sometime soon. It probably should have
been against West Brom but we managed to delay it until the Wolves game, which
is in itself an achievement. Assuming, of course we can get more wins we should
go onto win it. Losing to Wolves, who are one of the favourites for relegation,
they're maybe not the best of caliber, but out of all the teams to lose to it
does do the least amount of harm to ourselves.
2. In general what have you made of United
this season - a season where they have played consistently average football yet
have stayed at the top of the league for months?
Slightly above average, in so much as we can
see we have potential to keep growing. Chicharito's been a great signing,
Anderson looks like he might just make it, Nani's improvement has been great to
watch, Rafael has finally made the right back slot his own. We can also see the
likes of Vidic, Ferdinand Park, and Berbatov are now at their peak.
Of course, we'd love to see the sort of football
we played in the 2006-2007 season, which is probably my favourite season I had
for watching the team, but we still do play some great stuff every now and
then. At the moment, we just seem to win because we're better than other teams
technically, not because we're playing better than them.
3. On that note, what do you think has
contributed to the falling standards at the top? Why have none of the teams at
the top maintained strong, winning form?
Outside of Manchester City and Tottenham
Hotspur, none of the teams seem to have improved much at all. An aging Chelsea
seem to have waited until this January to complete all their big signings,
Arsene is still stubborn about the same positions, and Liverpool are still a
farce despite a few wins.
I think with the Premier League not being like La
Liga in the way the money is pretty much only given to two teams - it's meant
that other teams can maintain very high standards despite not being able to
compete for the title. I think if Premier League teams took an actual shot at
the Europa League, an English club would win it more times than not.
I think a lot of players look quite tired right
now too. Looking at the form of Rooney and Torres it's bizarre when you compare
them to their past selves. Maybe it's the World Cup's toll on players.
4. Who's stood out for you this season and
why?
Nemanja Vidic. There were a lot of stores of
him possibly going to Spain in the last few seasons, and it seems some people
seem to have put the blame on his Mrs. Possibly because they're jealous that
she gets to be rocked by Nemanja. Anyway, Vidic, since he's been given the
captaincy has gone from excellent defender to complete and utter warrior. It's
like the captaincy has sort of him given him that extra something. Nemanja
Vidic is just plain awesome now.
5. Nearly four months on from the Rooney
going/staying saga, with the run-in gathering momentum yet Wazza's contribution in
terms of goals not, what are your feelings towards the player? Have the fans
forgiven and forgotten?
Obviously, Rooney lost a huge amount of
respect from everyone after that crazy week. I'm personally very surprised the
fans still sing for him - they seem to have forgiven him. I don't think they've
forgotten though. Like when we all knew that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave,
but we still loved him regardless. You can't compare the two, of course, as
Ronaldo had the decency to keep his mouth shut (for the most part) and wait.
My feelings are, if he recaptures his form from
last season, then fair enough, I'll forgive, and possibly forget. He's not
quite done that yet, though he seems to be not too far off from doing that. All
Rooney can do now is keep playing at a top level and show commitment to the
club for a long time. More pieces of brilliance like that which he did against City will be needed, but doing it against our rivals has probably boosted his reputation amongst the fans once more.
6. Ignoring how the teams below us fair,
United cannot afford anymore slip-ups with SAF saying about 30points in
the next 13 games should win it. Marking a W, L or D next to each game, how do
you think United will do in the
remaining fixtures?
Wigan (a) - W
Chelsea (a) - D
Liverpool (a) - W
Bolton (h) - W
West Ham (a) - W
Fulham (h) - W
Newcastle (a) - W
Everton (h) - W
Arsenal (a) - L
Chelsea (h) - L
Blackburn (a) - W
Blackpool (h) - W
That gives us 28 points, d'oh.
