The question is....who's on the panel?

*warning: NOT a football blog*

Yes that is correct. I sometimes like things that aren't United related. Not a lot of things, mind. But a few, such as music. And when I feel those things not linked to my divine football club are interesting enough to f**k up the system by writing about them in my 'football' blog, well I just go ahead and write about them, dun I??

So, like I said, I like music. In particular hip-hop and it's eclectic family of sub-genres - including the hit-and-miss Grime. And after hearing something the other day that rocked me somewhat, I felt compelled to give it's subject matter a privileged slot in my blog.

It may have completely passed a lot of people by, but this week MTV Base dropped their Best of the Best UK MC's for 2010, compiled by a well respected panel of industry experts, including Logan Sama (Kiss 100), Joseph ‘JP’ Patterson (MTV) and Charlie Sloth (BBC 1Xtra).

Well, to say the list was a controversial one is to say that Wazza was ever so slightly fortunate to not have seen red yesterday at Wigan (see? I do still write about football, for those who missed the warning and are thinking 'what the fuck is this pile of shit I'm reading!?').

So this is how it went...

MTV UK, Top 10 MCs of 2010:

  1. Tinie Tempah

  2. Dizzee Rascal

  3. Skepta

  4. Pro Green

  5. Wiley

  6. Giggs

  7. Devlin

  8. P Money

  9. D Double E

  10. Chipmunk / Lowkey

And the response? Well for those of you partial to a spot of Twitter, as I am (i.e. FOLLOW ME!), you may have heard a few noises coming out of East London from one rather vexed MC who feels - make that knows - the panel made a mistake.

Ghetts, easily one of the UK's most talented rappers who alongside Wiley, Dizzee et al is considered a pioneer of the UK scene post-2003, was so disheartened by his omission, he not only made his feelings clear to his 22,462 followers on Twitter, he ran (and I mean ran) straight to the studio to lyrically vent out his anger.

And the result was simply amazing. Check it...

Even UK hip-hop royalty Klashnekoff has a word to say about his mate's no-show. It was, as the pair note, crazy to leave out such a key member of the genre, but surely just as mad to leave out the likes of Kano and JME who both dropped decent albums in 2010...?

So that's it, non-football related post over. Normality will return in the form of my match review later today. But for now, I'd love to know what others who care about UK hip-hop think. Do you agree/disagree with the list? Given the incredible year Devlin had, is a slot at number 7 a bit of a joke? And was Lowkey's addition a brave move too far?

Please discuss.........
