PLAYER RATINGS: United vs Spurs. 2-0
Van der Sar, 7. 40 years old the day before the game but made a blinder of a save against Modric that 23 year old Joe Hart - arguably Manchester's highest profile 'keeper at the minute - would dream of making. Legend.
Rafael, 6. A few sprightly runs that mildly terrorised Bale, Gallas and others in his path - namely in an early chance that saw his left-footed strike miss the target - but you still feel that maturity and experience are holding him back. In time, I hope, he will be the next United no.2.
Ferdinand, 6. It's so great to see him play nowadays given the rare nature of it. However whenever he takes his place in front of Van der Sar - and preferably alongside Vidic - you are always assured of a solid, classy and confident display. Still, his extra-curricular activities and consequent lack of concentration while off the field may in-time affect his performance on it...you know he tweeted about Nani's goal minutes after the full-time whistle went?
Vidic, 8. Vidic: the perfect hybrid of anything that is strong, assured and hard as f**k. Can also score a pretty incredible header too. Truly brilliant performance against a tough attacking unit.
Evra, 6. Continued his slow start to the season. As usual, he was also providing an added threat to our attack as he made a few darting runs up the wing. But you feel he isn't as effective as he was last season. Maybe he's missing his muse up-front...
Nani, 8. The assist for Vidic's opener was a classic, 'proper' delivery from a free-kick - an essential trait for any winger - and his goal was...well...just genius. Realising that the referee hadn't blown for a handball against him (when Gomes clearly did), Nani snatched the ball just as the Spurs 'keeper was about to take his 'free-kick', and slotted it home into an open goal. Of course there was a herd of white shirts bombarding both lino and ref, as well as severe reaction since, however he intelligently, clinically and cheekily did ...
Carrick, 6. Six is probably being a bit kind. As with Park, he deserved to keep his place after a decent game against Wolves, but looked a bit lost at times in the centre of midfield with his trade-mark through balls being comfortably cut out by the resilient Spurs central midfield and defence.
Fletcher, 7. Not his best game of the season, but he was always attacking, always tracking back and making vital interceptions...and generally always working hard until the end. That is the Fletcher way. And that's why we love him.
Park, 6. Meh. Better than vs. Bursaspor, but not as good as vs. Wolves mid-week. And I guess that's the on/off nature of Park's form of late.
Berbatov, 6. Continued his current hangover from the hysteria that was his hattrick against Liverpool. No goals but plenty of work from our rejuvenated striker. Where as last season, even when he was scoring he was criticised, this season he is being praised even when he doesn't.
Hernandez, 6. Similar to Berbatov: no goals but plenty of work, effort and threatening signs from our more in-form striker. Rooney better watch his back...
