VIEW: United vs Scunthorpe (a). 5-2
Good.
A great
run out for a few of the ‘so nearly forgotten’ boys.
In particular
first full match in bloody ages – and Owen, technically our 5th choice striker, who scored a brilliant brace. Park, who has already appeared in
5 games this season, is hardly a forgotten figure, but it’s always to see one
of the most hard working players at United grab a goal. KitKat deserves a special mention here, who's solid, alert performance - especially early in the first half when the home team came out firing - won him Man of the Match.
Smalling.
Great goal by the young ‘un. Positioning and finish were simply delish. Good job son.
Bebe.
Unlike Smalling’s
contribution, Bebe’s debut was hardly much to shout about…but at least it
finally happened! Possibly Fergusons most scrutinized signing ever – when has a
player ever been judged as much as this before even kicking a ball? – has finally arrived. Let's just pray the hard work he's put into getting himself fit and ready for this demanding League pays off.
Through to the next round. Goes without saying that one.
Bad.
The opening
It was 100% coming – their
6th attempt of the game, after only 19 minutes compared to our 4 – and it was well
deserved. Maybe boss Ian Baraclough was right; as opposition teams have started to notice the frailties in our defense after recent performances. Worrying if a
team currently 15th in the Championship can capitalize on it! Having said that, we soon put em firmly in their place with two goals before half-time (cheeky little things thinking they could beat us!)
No
Yeh, we
won. Comfortably. So who cares if Sir Alex was around to witness it or not? Well,
put it like that, and it really has no right going in the ‘Bad’ section of this
blog. But does no one else think it’s all a tad weird? Only the 3rd game he’s ever missed since 1986…and for what? To watch our next Champions
League opponents? Surely we’ve faced more challenging teams in the past than
the extreme urgency to fly out and watch them in them play (incidentally this
was the first time he’s missed a game for work reasons rather than personal)?
Why not guide his team to a comfortable Carling Cup victory, avoiding any sort
of media black-lash about Fergies lack of respect towards the competition, and
just watch
draw with Athletico later that night on the telly??
Player Ratings:
Kuszczak 8; Brown 7 , Ferdinand 7, Smalling 7 (36), Rafael 6; Gibson 7 (23), Anderson 7, Park 7 (54); Owen 7 (49, 71), Macheda 6, Hernandez 6.
Maybe he was there to discuss a move for the keeper? PIG did well but I still don't think he is a long term solution. He flaps at crosses and cannot kick to save his life!
ReplyDeleteYeh I heard rumours about him checking out Athletico's keeper...still I'm pretty sure a club the size of United has enough scouts on their books to do those sort of jobs?
