VIEW: United vs Stoke. 4-0

Yes, it’s over a week late. But can anyone blame me for delaying
my reflection of such a disappointing season end?

Although I stated so profusely in my review of the Sunderland
game (which turned out to be more a dissection of our chances after the
Liverpool/Chelsea match) that the race was over, it was still horribly hard to
take. A confident, utterly dominant display at home to Stoke was meaningless. As
Park snatched the fourth – knowing at that stage
Chelsea
had well and truly wrapped it up (thanks to the reaction of the pathetic away
fans. ‘Who the F**K do you support!?’) – he simply trudged away, ironically disconsolate.

The day was billed to be an exciting, tense culmination of a
truly up-and-down season. A fitting ending therefore, the tabloids would have you
believe, for one final, glorious twist. A late N’Zogbia screamer to level
things at the Bridge perhaps? As it was however, the afternoon screamed conventionality
and inevitability. A convincing result for United was completely ruled out and perceived
utterly insignificant due to
Chelsea’s
annihilation of
Wigan. Even poor Rooney – everyone’s
player of the season – was denied the golden boot thanks to Drogba’s hattrick. Disappointment in every aspect of the game.

As we slowly begin to look forward to next season, we know
that this term we were simply not good enough however will be heartened by the fact that United always undoubtedly improve
and bounce back as only United know how. To make
Chelsea
work for it the way they had to (baring in mind that they could still have
scored 100 goals and only finished second) is a credit to our resolve and a fine
representation of the desire Sir Alex has instilled within his side. And even when
the performances and, at times, individual displays were not up to scratch, we
were always united in our perseverance.

Fair play to Chelsea.
But I'm afraid you better believe that we will return to snatch back our trophy along with your false sense of entitlement.

As the reds go marching on, on, on!!
